Sugar Pie Pumpkin

Sugar Pie Pumpkin

Sugar pumpkins, or pie pumpkins, are one of the earliest documented pumpkin varieties. They are smaller and rounder than carving pumpkins, with a 6-8 inches diameter. Sugar pumpkins have a sweeter, less watery flesh than the Connecticut Field pumpkin, from which they were derived.

When Mr. Burpee offered it in 1887, he said: "A very prolific and handsome little pumpkin; usual size about 10" in diameter; skin is a deep orange-yellow. It is very fine-grained, sweet and sugary, and keeps well." They are perfect for canning and making pies.

Starter will be in a 4" reusable nursery pot.
