Numex Big Jim Chili Pepper

Numex Big Jim Chili Pepper

Numex Big Jim pepper was developed in 1975 at New Mexico State University as a step up from the Anaheim. It's the largest pod type, growing to over a whopping foot long, breaking Guinness Book of World Records for the largest chili pepper variety.

Hardy and vigorous, the Big Jim is prolific and tolerant of pests and cooler weather. They are buttery and smoky flavored with medium heat, a bit milder than a jalapeno but a tad spicier than the standard Anaheim. They're are often used in Mexican dishes like salsa, soups, and stews and as part of holy trinity in Cajun food. Stuff with cheese, roast and fry them for authentic chile rellenos.

Peppers freeze well whole.

Interplant with basil, marigolds, calendula, onions, garlic, chives, thyme, rosemary, and oregano to improve flavor, increase harvest, repel harmful pests, and attract beneficial insects like bees and ladybugs.

Starter will be in a 4" reusable nursery pot.
