Marina's (Kura's mother) ancestors lived their lives protecting their nomadic shepherd's flocks in Nakhichevan. During the war of 1988, the shepherd had to flee for safety and ended up in Artsakh, where the shepherd's family has lived since. In the fall of 2020, attacks against Artsakh forced the family to flee from imminent danger. They relocated to a small village in west Armenia. Not long after, Marina had Kura and her siblings. We are so thankful the family was able to escape with their lives and that they were also able to save these incredibly rate lines of dogs. Kura is unrelated to any dogs in the US/CAN beyond her four siblings (3 CAN/1 US) and her six paternal half-siblings (1 CAN/ 5 US). We are very excited to have Kura as part of the conservation efforts to stabilize the gene pool.
